Grim?

Folks,

I was in a rather foul mood when I composed this ditty.

A Bough on the Burying Ground © Solomon 2003/2011
I can’t help you right now
I can’t show you the way
won’t worry ‘bout your troubles
if you stay out’a mine
I could tell you right now
I’ll spell out the story
but that would worry both our dreams
just the way they make you cry
No rest for the wicked
no rest for the brave
no rest but in death
play the pipes on the burying ground
throw a bough of ivy on the grave
I know where to find you
y’know where to find me too
we won’t worry ‘bout your troubles
stay well away from mine
No rest for the wicked
no rest for the brave
no rest but in death
play the pipes on the burying ground
throw a bough of roses on the grave

A Fine Rendition of an Old Favorite…

Well, folks…

Here is a performance that rains down gobs of paisley pudding from a very old, quite simple tune and verses built on common notions that everyone of us has felt. The drummers are, however, unsparing in hammering to the heart of the matter. Lesh bounces his melodic bass along with the Eight Limbed Rhythm Devil as Garcia bangs his his knuckles on the cosmic trampoline. Weir and Brent ring their bells and make the strings and keys shriek to high heaven. The entire crew lends their crappy voices to the choir.

This is a rare, concise bit of what this bunch could show our own hearts, and thus provoke our emotions in kindred spirit and sympathy.

More Lyrical Bunk…

Folks,

I continue to clear out my digital desk drawers, and I just ran across this bit of drivel that sort of scans and even rhymes. Might make an acceptable lyric in the right musical hands.

Stones, Bones and Roses © Solomon 2006/2011
Stones, bones and roses, ain’t this a treat
a fortune found where arrows meet
Tell me a story, spell me a rhyme
Give me a notion and a moment in time
I’m right here, I am in your eye
I see how you’re looking at me
like Nature's very blessed child
I give you gladly myself that you are mine
What’s the difference?
Who’s to tell?
Honey, better come fast
with that sugar pill
Stones, Bones and Roses, ain’t this a hoot
a treasure found of ancient loot
Touch my heart softly, do touch my mind
Show a gesture at the right moment  in time
What’s the difference
Who’s to tell
Honey, better come fast
with that sugar pill
Give me some sugar
Give me my fill
I will love you come good or ill
I do love you come good or ill

More Lyrical Doodling…

Folks,

This might lyric might make some sort of sense to somebody, so I toss it out as a message in a bottle.

On a Black Ship © Solomon 2011
I am on a black ship
sailing with a flag of heresy
with skull and bones adorned
and little else to boast
On a red wine, broad sea
I sail for you with another flag
a white flag on the mast
my heart still open to you
Friends are a burden you must retain
Yes, I seen it coming
Yes, it comes and it goes
I don’t know what this wind is portending
It just goes, it just goes
So, you took a'plenty
I’ll take mine fruit freely a'fallin
from boughs of Witness Tree
bearing for what all shall be

Friends are a burden you must retain
Yes, I seen it coming
Yes, it comes and it goes
I don’t know what this wind is portending
It just goes, it just goes
Life, Love, and Freedom
Not a promise but a dare to live
Ghosts throwing stones thru shadows
in the dark everywhere
Broken ships and black flags
Lips painted violet on a dare
Let my courage free and be
I owe what all was lent
Friends are a burden you must retain
Yes, I seen it coming
Yes, it comes and it goes
I don’t know what this wind is portending
It just goes, it just goes

Making Love in Words and Music…

Folks,,

Some of you may remember this old tune. We used to make music like this, where two friends could pretty well fornicate in public, and somehow keep their clothes on. Us hippies were not so sophisticated as these cats in those days.

Let's give a big hand to the folks on the bandstand and perhaps make more music like this tune in time. These time sure could use it.

I'm Gonna Make You Love Me

Country Style…

Folks,

Another bit of drivel, kind of country style. I pulled this out of my virtual desk drawer today, polished it up just a bit, but I wrote the basics back in 2006. There then was this girl, you see, now out of prison and doing well without my company. I did care much for her in those days, and got my skull well busted for that affection. So it goes.

I trust my friends in the glorious, notorious Hooligan Family to shepherd this nonsense into something that the kids can dance to.

Rough and Ready Angel © ssol 2011
Rough and Ready Angel
Some kind of lady
I’d rather be about you
than without you any day
Kiss me now forever
Send me to my dreams
being with you, forever
never leaving your side
Eyes open, livin’ for love
well earned and well learned
Smiles broad on imagination
will never fade away
Rough and Ready Angel
Some kind of lady
I’d rather be about you
than without you any day
It’s been quite a ride
for a many good years
riding on the Dragon’s tail
running through the Garden
dodging raindrops from Heaven
catching snowflakes on the fly
drinking from the Chalice Well
the very Truth that Time will tell
Rough and Ready Angel
Some kind of lady
I’d rather be about you
than without you any day
any day, any day, every day, all the time, for all of Time
